The 101 of Planning a Baby Shower

Whether it’s going to be your sister, sister-in-law or your best friend who’s going to be a mother very soon, the best way to celebrate the upcoming birth is by organizing a baby shower. If you have picked yourself to be the head, then by now you should keep in mind that it’s not going to be as easy as you think, especially if you like to have a successful and memorable baby shower.Planning a baby shower can include the following:

1. Choosing a date

Choosing a date seems to be a very easy activity, but the truth is it’s not. You can’t definitely schedule it months before the delivery, or the baby shower will soon lose its meaning or essence. On the other hand, you can’t have it extremely late, as by that time the mother-to-be will be too busy buying the things her baby needs, as well as coordinating with their doctor for a more convenient delivery.

If you aren’t sure which date to pick, you can always coordinate with a friend, the expectant mother’s mother, or even her husband. You can even ask for some tips from mothers. Their experience with baby showers will surely help you a lot.

2. Verifying the registry

More likely than not, pregnant mothers will be looking forward to a baby shower. Just so to make even gift giving convenient for everyone, she would sign up in a baby registry. Thus, planning a baby shower for you means checking out if she has one. If she does, it’s your responsibility to include the registry list in your invitations. This way, guests will not be picking out gifts randomly. They’re sure that their presents for both the baby and the mom are the things that they truly need.

3. Creating your guest list

Naturally, you want the baby shower to be a surprise; that’s why you need to develop your own guest list. If you have known the mother-to-be for such a long time, this is going to be a no-brainer for you. However, in any case you’re in doubt, you can refer to her family and her other friends. Absolutely, you don’t want to miss out a favorite aunt that you’re not aware of. Most of all, when you’re planning a baby shower, make sure that you’ve clearly indicate in the invitation that it’s going to be by-invitation only. It’s supposed to be a very intimate affair, a gathering of only friends and family.

4. Decorating the venue

If you are truly sure on the sex of the baby, the color theme will never be that difficult. As an implied rule, pastel blue is for the baby boy, and light pink is just perfect for the baby girl. However, if the parents both decide to make it a secret (some really do) then neutral colors such as white will do.
